Artificial Intelligence & Data Science
By harnessing AI and advanced computational science, we uncover insights hidden in biological, behavioral and environmental data — driving breakthroughs in cancer care, pressure injury prevention, neurocognitive and cardiovascular health, and more. These discoveries improve health and advance health services and education. At the heart of this mission is our Center for Data Science, a dynamic hub for mentorship, cutting-edge tools, and collaborative learning.
Smarter Food Tracking
Taking food photos is an easy way to track nutrition, but most apps still misidentify foods and nutrients. Professor Xiao Hu and colleagues developed DietAI24, which pairs AI image recognition with a verified nutrition database. The system identifies foods from a photo and pulls precise nutritional values — making it 63% more accurate than leading apps and giving researchers and clinicians better data for personalized nutrition guidance.
