Emory nursing professor awarded $1.98 million R01 to examine impact of agency staff on nursing home care
Huiwen Xu, associate professor at the Emory School of Nursing, has been awarded a four-year, $1.98 million R01 grant from the National Institute on Aging to lead the first comprehensive study examining how nursing homes use agency staff and how those staffing practices affect quality of care.

High-dose vitamin D may improve cognition among those at risk of dementia, Emory study finds
In a study of 54 adults with sleep disturbances and mild cognitive impairments, two hallmarks of early dementia, participants taking at least 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily showed 13% higher cognitive scores than those who didn’t. The study was led by Victoria Pak in Emory’s School of Nursing.

Emory Nursing’s Rodriguez named Fellow of American Association of Nurse Practitioners
Jeannie Rodriguez, associate clinical professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Rodriguez was one of 59 nurse practitioner leaders inducted this year.
Sean Clarke named dean of Emory’s School of Nursing
Joining Emory from the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing, Sean Clarke is an internationally renowned nursing leader, researcher and educator. He will begin his term Aug. 1.
