Kathryn Williamson
About
Kathryn Williamson, DNP, APRN, CRNA, currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, where she practices as a CRNA and serves as clinical faculty at Emory University School of Nursing.
In her role as a CRNA, she provides anesthesia for a variety of complex surgeries at Piedmont Hospital; she also works for United Digestive where she provides care as a sole anesthesia provider, administering anesthesia for colonoscopies and upper endoscopies. Kathryn also enjoys teaching and maintains her role as an educator at Emory University to prepare the next generation of nurses, while often mentoring students interested in nurse anesthesia through shadow opportunities at her workplace. In support of her profession, Kathryn actively participates in the committee work of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists to shape and spread information about nurse anesthesia.
Kathryn received her BSN in 2005 from New York University School of Nursing. She has worked as a Registered Nurse primarily in critical care, including neurovascular, surgical and medical intensive care units in Pennsylvania and Georgia. She then pursued a Master’s degree in nursing specializing in anesthesia from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and has worked as a Nurse Anesthetist since being initially certified in 2012. Kathryn successfully defended her doctoral project on the use of simulation to practice an airway protocol for high-risk infectious diseases related to her clinical work during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was awarded a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Anesthesia from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021.
Kathryn joined Emory University in January 2023 after relocating to Georgia with her family. Previously, she worked in clinical instructor and faculty roles at Pennsylvania State University since 2018. Her recent area of publication focuses on the preoperative experience and learning needs of the pediatric patient and their caregiver. Kathryn has received numerous awards and scholarships for her clinical and academic achievements.
