Q&A With MN Pathway Student Student Favour Aibangbee

Supporting Nurse Leaders Who Serve the Underserved

Which scholarship(s), fellowship(s), and/or financial aid are you receiving?

I am a recipient of the Fuld Service Learning Fellowship, which provides a partial scholarship for the MN Pathway to MSN program. This fellowship is awarded to students with a special commitment to social responsibility, which aligns perfectly with my background.

My dedication to service is deeply rooted in my core values. Before Emory, I served youth at Covenant House by preparing meals, volunteered as a labor support doula, cultivated my different passions by studying abroad in South Africa, and many other service opportunities. These experiences allowed me to witness health disparities firsthand and solidified my desire to serve underserved populations, which is a mission the Fuld Fellowship directly supports.

Why did you choose the Emory School of Nursing, and was our financial support a factor in your decision-making process? If so, how?

Emory’s School of Nursing has an outstanding reputation for developing skilled nurse leaders who are committed to social responsibility and evidence-based practice. I chose Emory because I am looking to combine my gifts in health care to create an environment where women and children can thrive. I need a collaborative learning setting that pushes me to become a nursing leader capable of establishing culturally sensitive relationships.

As a woman passionate about maternal health and children, I want to be in the room where decisions are made to prevent avoidable mortality. Growing up in Snellville, Ga. and graduating from Spelman College, I admired Emory’s partnership program. I saw Emory as the place where I could evolve in excellence to advocate for mothers, children, and the unrepresented — and a place where I can become a better version of myself.

How did our financial support benefit your Emory Nursing journey?

The fellowship enhanced my journey at Emory by cultivating my commitment to social responsibility.  I think about what I’m passionate about, then do something about it. As a Fuld Service Learning Fellow, I am applying what I learn in the classroom to the public health challenges facing women and children.

I am thankful for the fellowship because it reduced financial burden at Emory while fostering my leadership and advocacy skills.

What are your plans after graduating from Emory?

My fascination with nursing began after taking care of my special needs sister through the challenges she faced; this influenced me to pursue becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and later plans of earning my DNP in midwifery.

My ultimate goal is to open a private practice and establish a mentoring program for women and children in challenging situations, providing family-centered care to underserved populations. I want to use my journey to help them see their uniqueness as a strength, ensuring they have the resources and confidence to tap into their full potential.
