The Office of Nursing Research (ONR) mission is to empower faculty and students to advance nursing science to improve health and wellbeing by setting the standard for innovative collaborative scholarship. The Office of Nursing Research has 4 centers of excellence and more than 175 active and pending research projects.

Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is among the top five nursing schools in the U.S. for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), securing $15 million in NIH research grants as part of a total portfolio of $20 million in 2022.

Philosophy

The guiding philosophy of the Lillian Carter Center is reflective of the work of Mrs. Lillian Carter as both nurse and social activist. The LCC focuses on enabling nurses to address key health problems and issues of underserved peoples. The overall philosophy reflects an understanding of the multiple factors that determine health and the need for a strong public health orientation in all of its work.

Grant Proposal Submissions

To begin working with the Office of Nursing research, please complete the Proposal Initiation Form. If you have any questions on how to fill out the Proposal Initiation Form (PIF), please contact Jessica Abrams.

Pre-Award Grant Services

After completing the Proposal Initiation Form, schedule a proposal preparation meeting with your Research Administration Services (RAS) Pre-Award Administrator, Jamila Edwards. In this meeting, you may review the proposal guidelines and mutually agree on target due dates for when specific budget and grant information will be provided. Budget Planning

Editorial Support

Mock Review

Mock Review sessions are provided to allow faculty, PhD students, and Post Doctoral Fellows to receive detailed feedback on a grant proposal they're working on and to gain insight into the standard review process at funding agencies. Click Here to Download the Mock Review Infographic.

Members of our statistical support team advise on the statistical aspects of proposals or current projects. We encourage researchers to consult a statistician early in the planning stage of a project - ideally at the grant preparation stage. For R-level awards, percentage effort for a PhD statistician is generally expected by the funding agency. ONR provides assistance interfacing with the SON Business Office and Research Administration Services (RAS). Post-Award support is provided largely by the RAS post-award team. If you need assistance with identifying your Post-Award administrator, please contact Tammy Babitz.
