Teaching
Dr. Griggs’ teaching philosophy is rooted in over a decade of commitment to nursing education and is supported by a master's degree in nursing education. She has taught at various academic levels, including undergraduate, master's, DNP, and PhD programs, mentored students and trainees at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, early career) and previously directed an accredited honors program. Her philosophy emphasizes that education and mentorship can unlock limitless opportunities, and it is closely aligned with progressivism—a student-centered approach grounded in pragmatism that reflects her values and teaching methodology. Throughout her career, Dr. Griggs has implemented a wide range of innovative teaching and mentoring strategies, continuously using student feedback and performance metrics to assess optimize her teaching effectiveness. Currently she is teaching the Applications of Measurement Theory in Clinical Research Studies for PhD students (NRSG 731). Recently, she taught two doctoral-level courses: a qualitative methods course for PhD students and an intensive research course for DNP candidates at a former institution. To further enhance her understanding of evidence-based pedagogy, Dr. Griggs secured a UCITE innovation grant aimed at redesigning a course in collaboration with university colleagues, receiving a total of $6,500 in funding for course development in 2024. Additionally, she participated in a year-long teaching fellowship, and earned honorific awards at both state and college levels. Her strong rapport with students is evident in the consistently high ratings she receives for her instruction in the PhD and DNP programs.

Research
Dr. Griggs’ research program has made significant contributions to nursing and health by focusing on cognitive-behavioral sleep health (CB-sleep health) interventions aimed at improving sleep health and glucose regulation in young adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). She has successfully secured funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and various foundations, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Sigma. The broad and sustained impact of this work addresses the critical long-term effects of poor sleep health, such as satisfaction, alertness, and glycemic control, directly benefiting individuals with T1D. Notably, the investigations examine the interplay between sleep health, glucose regulation, and diabetes self-management.
As her research continues to grow in complexity, she has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles, presented at various conferences, and maintained a strong scholarly output. Recognized regionally and nationally, she has received prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Early Investigator Award from the Sleep Research Society and the Harriet H. Werley Award from the Midwest Nursing Research Society.
