About

Dr. Marye McKenney is a Senior Clinical Instructor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. She is board certified as Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. Dr. McKenney has dedicated her clinical career to partnering with patients and their families facing complex neurological disorders due to trauma and disease . She has experience providing both primary and specialty focused care. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1985), Masters of Science Nursing as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (1999), Post Masters Certificate as a John A. Hartford Foundation Scholar in Gerontological Advance Practice Nursing (2005) and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Health Systems Leadership (2022) from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing of Emory University.

In 2016 she joined Emory as a teaching faculty in partnership with the Atlanta Veterans Administration Health Care System (AVAHCS) to establish the Veterans Administration Nursing Academic Partnership in Graduate Education (VANAP-GE) which provides select Emory primary care nurse practitioner students with the opportunity to complete primary care and specialty care rotations through the AVAHCS. Also she supported the design and implementation of the AVAHCS's two Nurses Practitioner Residency programs: Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Program (PCNPRP 2016) and the Geriatric Extended Care Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Program (GEC PCNPRP 2022). Dr. McKenney's clinical faculty practice is at the AVAHCS in the Cognitive Neurology Interprofessional Education Clinic. Educating nursing and medical trainees while caring for the clinical needs of Veterans with memory loss and supporting their care partners. Her academic interests include: Veteran centric care, cognitive neurology, behavioral health,988 implementation policy, nursing workforce, transition to practice of new nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner residency programs. She is a passionate educator of nurse practitioner students developing strong clinicians and future nursing leaders.
