About

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, I relocated to Atlanta to attend undergrad at Spelman College. Post graduation, I obtained my Master’s in Public Health with an emphasis in health promotion and behavior from Georgia State University. Although I am not a nurse, my public health background has allowed me to add a unique set of skills, perceptions, and ideas that parallel with ideologies in nursing research, a discipline I have come to greatly appreciate and understand its impact on healthcare. I am currently examining the role of health literacy in the caregiving experience of Black family caregivers of persons living with dementia and assessing validity and reliability of health literacy measurement tools among the same population. I am passionate about combatting health disparities and inequities, working on community participatory research, and building bridges of trust between research and the Black American community. When I am not writing or reading the literature, I am either watching a Lakers game or playing outdoors with my dog Gigi.
