About
Jiyoon Jang is a doctoral student in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University. She has professional experience in geriatric care and has a deep passion for providing effective, individualized care for older adults. She graduated in 2015 with a BSN from Gachon University and received her MSN at Yonsei University in Korea. She worked on the surgical-oncology floor of the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in Korea. For four and half years working as a registered nurse, she became highly motivated to contribute to effective care approaches for older adults and their caregivers. She expanded her knowledge by participating in gerontological research projects at the Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute in Korea, which conducts various research projects on aging health science. During this time, she was involved in various research using information and communications technology (ICT) that focused on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Through these experiences, Jiyoon learned the importance of alleviating the symptoms of community-dwelling older adults with dementia and recognized the significant role of nursing scientists, which inspired her to seek her PhD journey in nursing. During her time at Emory, she plans to develop strategies for addressing health problems among older adults and reducing their caregivers’ burden.
