About the
Virginia Lee Franklin
Memorial Conference
Virginia Lee Franklin earned a master's degree in nursing from Emory University in 1957 and taught surgical nursing at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.
To honor her after her death in 1981, her parents D. Murray and Katherine Franklin created the Virginia Lee Franklin Memorial Trust. In the spirit of Virginia Lee Franklin's commitment to teaching and to the specialty of neurology, the trust supports an annual conference dedicated to the advancement of neuroscience teaching, research, and practice.
Although it was initiated to benefit Emory nursing students and faculty, the conference now draws many Atlanta nurses as well as numbers of other health care professionals.
This conference honors the memory of Virginia Lee Franklin because of her dedication to teaching and her loyalty to Emory. She is remembered by her colleagues as an excellent teacher, an advocate for the nursing profession, and a compassionate nurse.
