Curriculum
Bridge Courses (24 semester hours)

Credit Hours

NRSG 380 Health Assessment

3

Health assessment provides the knowledge and skills necessary for assessing the health status of clients. Students use structured interviews to elicit health histories and health practices, and perform physical examinations in a systematic manner to determine areas in which health promotion activities should be implemented or reinforced. Students are introduced to a broad range of normal variations through supervised practice with peers in the laboratory setting. Further application will occur within concurrent and subsequent clinical nursing courses.

Credit Hours

NRSG 410 Professional Nursing in a Dynamic Context 5

This course provides opportunities for students to explore conceptual and methodological factors influencing professional practice. Students will examine the context of professional practice, the evolution of nursing as a profession, and evolving roles of contemporary practice. Opportunities for development as a group member and as a professional nurse in advanced practice are provided.

Credit Hours

NRSG 412 Contemporary Issues and Professional responses

NRSG 420 Community Health Nursing

Models for planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for promoting the health of populations are presented. Content specific to contemporary public health problems and populations at risk is presented, and models for addressing such problems are examined. Clinical learning experiences are designed to develop skill in application of the nursing process in promoting the health of communities. Students will participate in assessment of the health needs of aggregates and populations and in planning, implementing, and evaluating services and programs designed to promote the health of communities. Creativity in nursing practice will be promoted through student initiated innovative projects designed to address the health needs of target groups.
