The Masters degree in Public Health Nursing Leadership prepares nurses to address a broad range of health needs of a population. The focus is on the community instead of an individual client and nursing interventions are based on the needs of the community with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion. Because public health nursing is a blend of the art of nursing and the science of public health, some of the course offerings are from the Rollins School of Public Health.
residency requirements can be fulfilled by working with nursing leaders at a vast array of public health or community based organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control, state or local health departments, the Carter Center, or other world-renowned agencies. This experience enables the advanced practice nurse to enhance leadership skills within the dynamic environment of a community setting.
Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the certification examination as a community health nursing clinical specialist, a certification that is offered jointly by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in collaboration with the Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association.
