Ranked as one of the top ten Midwifery programs in the nation by US News and World Report, the Nurse-Midwifery specialty is designed to prepare nurses with practitioner skills in antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, family planning, and selected aspects of well-women’s health care. Graduates are prepared to become primary health care providers for women. Upon completion of this four semester program, a graduate is eligible to take the examination of the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certifying Council, Inc.
There are 76 nurse-midwifery services in the State of Georgia, many of them in the Atlanta metropolitan area. This number and variety of services afford nurse-midwifery students rich learning opportunities. Opportunities for diverse clinical experiences are available in the various specialty clinics at Grady Memorial Hospital, various primary care settings, and community-based programs for vulnerable populations. The expanded development of nurse-midwifery throughout Georgia makes it possible for students to have advanced clinical practice experiences in a variety of public and private settings.
