Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

 Description

Health care in the acute care setting is rapidly changing and becoming increasingly complex.  The Acute Care NP program prepares nurses to provide advanced practice in acute and critical care settings through a program of study focused on the care of acute and critically ill patients and their families. Graduates are eligible for certification as an acute care nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). . . . Numerous specialty practices across the Atlanta area including cardiology, pulmonology, and neurology

  • Students may focus on the acute care clinical area that most interests them
     
  • Strong clinical sites are available both within Emory Healthcare and the Atlanta area
     
  • Faculty includes clinically expert acute care nurse practitioners
     
  • Besides receiving a strong clinical education, students are educated to become scholars and are well-prepared to pursue PhD studies in the future 
     
  • Students may be involved in research projects of nationally known nursing faculty
     
  • RN-MSN option available

Opportunities for Graduates
Graduates of the program have multiple career opportunities.  Current positions of recent graduates include:  cardiothoracic nurse practitioner, neurosurgery ICU nurse practitioner, nurse practitioner in reconstructive surgery practice, acute care nurse practitioner in infectious disease, clinical nursing faculty at a community college, and nurse practitioner in out-patient and in-patient pulmonology settings.
