Hugh P. Davis Lecture

The Hugh P. Davis Lectureship is funded through an endowment established by the family and friends of Dr. Hugh P. Davis to bring nationally recognized nursing leaders to Emory for the benefit of students, faculty and the nursing community. The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is committed to improving care and producing nurse leaders, under the tenets of scholarship, leadership and social responsibility.

Shirley Moore, PhD, RN, FAAN

Shirley Moore, PhD, RN, FAAN, Edward J. and Louise Mellen Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Research at the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing, will deliver the 2013 Hugh P. Davis Lecture on Monday, April 15 at 4 p.m. Dr. Moore is one of the nation’s preeminent nursing researchers. Her lecture will focus on inrervention trials for childhood obesity. Dr. Moore’s research focuses on cardiovascular risk factor prevention and promoting health healthy lifestyles following cardiac events. In a series of studies, Dr. Moore has developed and tested interventions to improve physical and psychological health following cardiac events. Most recently she is conducting research addressing childhood obesity and hypertension in low-income families. Dr. Moore is the Director of a National Institutes of Health-funded Center of Excellence in Self-Management Research. An important dimension of this center is the FIND Lab, a laboratory that is focused on the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in mainstream research.
