Hundreds of family, friends, and loved ones gathered celebrate the Class of 2017 during the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing’s 110th diploma ceremony at McDonough Field. The School of Nursing conferred degrees for 325 students, including seven DNP students; five PhD graduates; 107 BSN graduates; 35 Accelerated BSN graduates; 131 MSN, and 47 Accelerated MSN graduates. Four students graduated with a perfect 4.0 average. More than 40 percent of the students in the Class of 2017 participated in global health programs through the Lillian Carter Center for Global Health & Social Responsibility. Collectively, students dedicated more than 25,000 hours of service though the Lillian Carter Center to promote health and prevent disease in communities around the world. Graduating students now join a network of more than 7,200 nurse leaders worldwide who are proud alumni of the School of Nursing.

During the ceremony, Dr. Ann Connor was recognized with the Emory Williams Teaching Award. The award is the highest university honor for teaching given to a full-time faculty member. Dr. Connor was recognized for her commitment to students and to serving Atlanta’s homeless and refugee populations.

The Commencement ceremony was the final event in a weekend celebrating the achievements of the graduating class.
