About the RNB
THE REGIONAL NURSING BODY
The Regional Nursing Body (RNB) is a
non-statutory, autonomous, collaborative and advisory
organization, which was established in December 1972 in
Guyana. It is administratively attached to the CARICOM
Secretariat in Guyana and is answerable to the Caucus of
Ministers of Health and the Council of Health and Social
Development (COHSOD).

Non-statutory
It was set up
through agreements of the Governments of the participating
Caribbean commonwealth countries and by resolution of nursing
leaders and Ministers of Health.

Autonomous
It makes its own
policies, regulates and controls its own affairs with the
approval and consent of Ministers of Health of the Unit,
Governments.

Collaborative
It seeks to work
with and through existing nursing agencies and organizations
in the Region, not to compete with or displace any of them.

Advisory
The Regional
Nursing Body carefully collects and studies data on the basis
of which it makes recommendations to Governments or
individuals concerning problems of interest.
Vision Statement
The RNB is
committed to excellence in the provision of health care,
utilizing a multi-disciplinary and continuous quality
improvement (CQI) process, will ensure that nurse leaders are
proactive in promoting the formulation of overall health
policy through the development of strategic plans with the
necessary enabling legislative framework, thus impacting on
decision-making at all levels.
Furthermore
the RNB will strengthen community partnership, promote
evidenced-based practice, maintain regional and international
standards of nursing practice, nursing education, quality and
gender sensitivity and utilize current technology.
Mission Statement
The Regional
Nursing Body (RNB) is committed to the improvement of health
in the Region through the provision of strategic nursing
leadership in health and nursing programmes.
Purpose
The Regional
Nursing Body was set up initially to advise and assist the
unit territories to meet their needs in the field of nursing
education. Since that time the purpose of the Body has been
enlarged. It now provides a forum for Principal/Chief Nursing
Officers to plan, devise strategies and identify resources for
the advancement of all areas of nursing within the region.
Goal(s)
To enhance the
development of nursing/midwifery personnel to meet the health
care needs of countries in the region.
