The first two days brougth together CNOs from developed and developing nations around the world in a unique global networking environment. This CNO specific segment of the conference provided an opportunity for CNOs to share with CNOs from other countries the issues and challenges they encounter in the health care delivery system of the country in which they reside. The program focused on professional development, best practices, leadership models, and resource allocation. The goal of the three-day CNOs Institute was to prepare these nurse leaders to take a major role at the table of health policy development and implementation in their respective countries and, through partnering and mutual exchange, to become part of a larger team of professionals who are addressing global health issues.

The last two days of the conference brought together CNOs and CMOs worldwide to focus on the critical role the partnership between government nursing and physician leaders plays in identifying and managing biological threats. This segment of the conference sought to educate and inform participants regarding the most current scientific information on biological terrorism and diseases, and facilitated partnership formation among health leaders within and across national boundaries. Panels and discussions featuring lessons learned in managing health crises such as the recent SARS epidemic and the intentional dissemination of anthrax in the U.S. demonstrated the critical need for collaborative approaches to biological threats.
