Welcome to the GCNO-Net
Dear
Colleagues:
On behalf of the Lillian Carter Center for International Nursing, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Chief Nurse Officer’s Web Site. The purpose of this site is to provide a useful resource for Chief Nurses around the world as you tackle the pressing nursing issues within your countries and across borders. On this site, you will be able to check for relevant meetings and events, links to other sites, and obtain information. Your feedback on ways that this project can be useful to you is extremely important. So, please use the feedback areas to help us make it great for you.
The Lillian Carter Center for International Nursing is located within the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In June 2004, we served as secretariat for the international conference, “Global Government Health Partners Leadership Forum 2004: Managing Emerging Biological Threats Through Professional Collaboration,” which brought together chief medical officers, chief nursing officers, and ministers of health from 70 countries to discuss the growing and immediate threats both biological and man-made to humanity. We also served as the secretariat for another international conference in Fall 2001 “Global Nursing Partnerships: Strategies for a Sustainable Workforce.” Amongst the many happenings of that meeting was the opportunity for the Chief Nurse Officers in attendance to explore ideas and share experiences. On this site, you will find a summary of those deliberations.
After the 2001 conference, the Chief Nurse Officers requested that the Lillian Carter Center serve as a secretariat for the group. As the former Chief Nurse for the United States, I was thrilled to have the opportunity. This web site is a project in support of the group.
Thank you for visiting the Chief Nursing Officers's web site. Come often and share your experiences and tell us how we can help you.
Sincerely yours,
Marla E. Salmon, ScD, RN, FAAN
