The Global Government Chief Nursing Officers Institute is the biennial meeting of the Government Chief Nursing Officers’ Network and focuses specifically on managing the key challenges facing Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs). This meeting began on the evening of Sunday, October 29 with a welcome reception, followed by the program on Monday and ended on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 31. The meeting provided a neutral, confidential forum exclusively for CNOs and was enthusiastically attended by CNOs from over 100 countries. The meeting included sessions on topics of interest such as delivering services in the face of staff shortages, roles of the CNO, and media strategies.

The week culminated with the Global Government Health Partners Forum 2006: The Breaking Point - Human Resources for Health, November 2-3, 2006. This forum brought together CNOs and CMOs from over 100 countries to focus on human resources for health with an emphasis on work conditions, trade policy and migration.
The goal of the Forum was the formation of partnerships among health leaders within and across national boundaries to improve the health of individuals and communities worldwide.
