Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing (ABSN/MSN)
The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University offers an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing (ABSN/MSN) curriculum for aspiring nurses and health care professionals. This program is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in a field other than nursing and who are seeking a career as an advanced practice nurse. The ABSN/MSN program is designed to build upon previous skills, education, and experiences. This program prepares students for the MSN program by providing connections with MSN faculty and exposure to a variety of clinical settings. In doing so, the program lays the foundation for advanced clinical and academic graduate study.
-
BSN Degree in 15 Months
-
Seamless transition to MSN Program
-
Program is for students with undergraduate degree other than Nursing.
This full time campus-based option begins each summer term; the BSN portion runs consecutively for four semesters. Graduates take the Georgia NCLEX-RN examination following graduation. Note: A valid Georgia RN license is required for students to begin clinical practicum experiences in the MSN program. These begin in October. Therefore, all students must pass the NCLEX-RN examination by October 1 in order to remain in the MSN program. The MSN portion will commence the fall semester following BSN graduation. The time required to complete the MSN specialty will range from 3-5 semesters of full time coursework depending on the specialty.
The new program is based on the current BSN curriculum with modifications in scheduling, sequence, and coursework. This program incorporates all of the components of a traditional BSN with an additional focus on expanded involvement with underserved populations and current health care needs.
Examples of strategies and course/clinical modifications include:
- Expanded use of problem-based learning and self directed study
- Revision of professional development course content and previous participation in graduate level courses in research, policy and ethics
- Integration of health promotion and community content throughout curriculum
- Expanded involvement with underserved populations by placement at clinical agencies serving vulnerable populations, by scheduling community content throughout curriculum and by developing cultural immersion experiences as a capstone project
- Opportunities for socialization by participation in select concurrent undergraduate and graduate level courses

Admission Information
The School of Nursing selects applicants who are academically qualified to pursue undergraduate study. Once all application materials have been received, the Admission Committee will review each applicant’s credentials and make the decision to offer or deny admission. Selection criteria will include demonstrated past academic success, maturity, flexibility, independence as a self directed and motivated learner, leadership potential, and professional goals. Final acceptance is contingent on satisfactory completion of all prerequisites, and the applicant must submit a final transcript before beginning coursework. Upon receiving an acceptance letter, each applicant must submit a nonrefundable deposit of $250, which will serve as confirmation of intent to enroll and will also apply to the first semester’s tuition.
