Women's Health/Adult Health Nurse Practitioner

The Women’s Health/Adult Health Nurse Practitioner program prepares nurses to deliver primary care to men and women from adolescence to old age.  Nurses are prepared to provide both primary care as well as the specialty needs of women, including both reproductive health and menopausal care.  The curriculum meets the guidelines for education established by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses National Organization of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and National Association of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.  The program is fifty-two credit hours and can be completed either full- or part-time.  The RN-MSN option is available.  Graduates are prepared to take the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam as well as the Adult Nurse Practitioner certification exam.

Unique Highlights:  Students have the opportunity to provide care for both men and women across the lifespan, from adolescence to old age.  Education in primary as well as specialty and subspecialty care is provided.  The program seeks to prepare health professionals who will provide care to a diverse population of people in multiple settings.  The community health project provides an opportunity to explore the advanced practice roles of both educator and consultant.

Clinical Experience:  A variety of clinical sites offer students the choice of working in many different healthcare settings with diverse patient populations.  Clinic sites in primary care, women’s health, specialty and sub-specialty care provide a wide variety of clinical experiences.  Clinical sites include rural clinics, student health services, private practice, public health clinics, HIV clinics, oncology treatment centers, a breast clinic and an endocrinology practice.

Career Opportunities:  The Women’s Health/Adult Health Nurse Practitioner program prepares students to work in a wide range of both primary and specialized clinics.
