Adult Nurse Practitioner
The Adult Nurse Practitioner program prepares nurses for advanced practice through a course of study focused on the care of medical/surgical patients and their families. Students choose an area of clinical emphasis from a wide variety of subspecialties, including neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and pulmonology. Courses in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, and management of chronically ill adults are combined with medical/surgical seminars and clinical experiences that emphasize the physiological and psychosocial impact of illness on the patient and family. Graduates prepare for the Adult Nurse Practitioner exam.
Flexible Studies: The three-semester, 41-hour program may be pursued full-time or part-time. The RN-MSN option is also available.
Unique Highlights: Students in this program choose to focus on the clinical specialty that most interests them. Nationally known research faculty and clinically active adult nurse practitioners are involved in the teaching process.
Clinical Experience: Students complete over 600 hours of directly supervised clinical practice. Multiple clinical sites are available in the metropolitan Atlanta area. These sites include primary care facilities, internal medicine practices, surgical practices, acute and chronic care settings, hospitals, and step-down units.
Career Opportunities: Graduates of this program have opportunities to work in acute, chronic, and specialty settings. In addition to working as a nurse practitioner, graduates have found positions as research nurses, research coordinators, administrators, educators, and quality assurance coordinators.
