Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares nurses to provide advanced practice in acute care settings through a program of study focused on the care of acutely ill patients and their families. The program integrates content in advanced health assessment, clinical decision-making and diagnosis, advanced pharmacology, and management of acutely ill adults with specialty seminars taught by expert clinicians. Seminars and clinical experiences emphasize the physiological and psychosocial impact of acute illness on the patient and family. Graduates are prepared to sit for the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification exam administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Flexible Studies: The three-semester, 41-hour program may be pursued full-time or part-time. The RN-MSN option is also available.
Unique Highlights: Students in this program choose to focus on the acute care clinical area that most interests them. Faculty members include clinically expert acute care nurse practitioners. Students may choose to be involved in research projects with nationally known nursing faculty.
Clinical Experience: Over 600 hours of directly supervised clinical practice with physician and nurse practitioner preceptors are required for degree completion. Sites include, but are not limited to hospitals and numerous specialty practices in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Career Opportunities: Students graduating from this program have opportunities to work in acute and critical care specialty settings. Graduates have also found positions in research administration, education, and quality assurance.
