President's Message

September, 2007

Dear Alpha Epsilon Members,

On behalf of all your Alpha Epsilon Board members, I would like to welcome each of you to another exciting year of events. It is our mission to provide you with high quality scholarly programs, meaningful community service projects, and opportunities to network with colleagues and friends. Sigma Theta Tau is a wonderful avenue to help you further develop professionally, and we thank you for your involvement in the Alpha Epsilon Chapter.

Just to recap a few highlights from last year’s events; the annual induction ceremony was held on April 17th. At that time we proudly inducted 56 new members to Alpha Epsilon! We inducted 29 students from the undergraduate class, 22 students from the masters and doctoral programs, and 5 excellent community nurse leaders. Please join me in extending our warmest congratulations to each of these outstanding new members.

In May, our new officers assumed their duties. These dedicated individuals will serve our chapter for the next two years. I am proud to serve our Chapter with such a fine group of individuals, and I am constantly inspired by the dedication of our officers and volunteers and the passion for nursing scholarship they embody. Each officer possesses unique leadership qualities and is poised to help our members flourish. Please feel free to contact any one of us for your chapter resource needs.

Moving forward, please join us for another exciting year for scholarly programming, starting off with our first wine and cheese event September 24 th at the NHWSN plaza. Our chapter vice-president, Bethany Robertson CNM, MN is spearheading program development this year, and has been working hard to bring us timely, interesting and educational programs.

I am also happy to report that one of our most dedicated members will continue to lead the Alpha Epsilon’s involvement in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. Sigma Theta Tau International has formed a national partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, and supporting the Walk is a way for us to give back to our communities both locally and nationally. As Alpha Epsilon Team Captain, Sally Lehr PhD, APRN-BC, FAACS has marshaled our chapter in the past to award winning participation and fund raising for this event. Sally has already begun working on this year’s October 20th Walk. Please see specific instructions on how to join the team on the following page. Invite your friends (two or four legged), family, co-workers, and other STT members to join you on the walk, October 20 th , 2007.

One of the key missions of Sigma Theta Tau International is to develop leadership capacity in our membership. Our chapter is always on the lookout for more volunteers to serve Alpha Epsilon. Whether you are an inexperienced leader or one with a wealth of experience, we have the need for your skills. It is a great opportunity to develop and hone leadership skills, develop new proficiencies, network with other nurse leaders, and interact at the local, regional and international levels. Our past president Gail Walls, MSN, APRN-BC will be facilitating membership outreach and involvement. If you are interested in volunteering with Alpha Epsilon, please e-mail Gail or myself for opportunities.

Please be on the lookout for this year’s mailed calendar of events, and check this website often. We will also be sure to notify our members via e-mail about upcoming events. If your contact information has changed, please be sure to let us know so we might update our distribution lists. In an effort to save time, money, and environmental resources, we are utilizing our web sources and e-mail distribution lists as our main avenues for communicating with you. As always, we protect your email address, using it for Sigma Theta Tau purposes only. It is never sold and we don’t do any emailing for recruiting or advertising purposes.

In addition to promoting our scholarly and community programs, we also like to highlight the achievements of our members. If you have a special achievement or life event, or know of a member who does, please write down the details and forward it to us with a picture (if available). We will post these to our website.

As always, please feel free to contact me or any member of the Alpha Epsilon Board with any questions, concerns, or ideas you might have.

Warmest Regards,

Jenny Williams MSN, MPH, APRN-BC
